Envelope Shell

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about fun mail. It’s always so nice to receive something personal at the end of the day. And I want to begin giving that to people. I set out to ‘fancify’ (as Isabella would say) a plain, 81/2 x 11 piece of cardstock. I didn’t like it. So I…

Quilled Card

A friend of mine recently had twins. We became friends when we were sitting together at the park watching our kids play. I’d met her a few times but never had the opportunity to really talk. But something about that day stripped away all of the small talk parents normally do while waiting for their…

Personal stamp

I’ve been hesitant to sign any of my artwork or projects. Not sure why, feels a bit strange for some reason. But I had the thought maybe I’d like it better if I had a stamp. Today I finally spent some time sketching out some block letter designs to try out. I did both my…

Tiny Book

I saw an idea on PInterest for a maze book and spent a few minutes this morning trying it out. I began with a 12×12 piece of paper and scored it every 2 inches so I had a grid of squares (more than the template below). Then I made slices and folded it back and…

Serendipity

Back in May I began the work of transferring my 365 days of a creative journey into a Blurb book.  Somewhere along the way from May to November, work on this project halted but last week I delved back in. I’ve noticed the universe has an interesting way of showing up when I put myself…

Paper Ball

A cold, rainy, blustery day seemed a perfect one for pulling out some cutting supplies, paper and glue. I look forward to experimenting more with this idea – as a little book or card or decorations.

Card

The other day I spent time playing with paper. This is the end result. I made a card for a co-worker/friend who is moving away. The picture in the upper corner is the card folded up in the box I made.

How?

How did 4 days go by so quickly? Although I haven’t been posting, I have been creating in one form or another. I brought a small sketchbook with me when I picked Isabella up on Friday and did a blind contour drawing of she and her friends playing. Wow, I didn’t like it but starting…

Dragon / Stump

Yesterday Quinn asked me, “Are you free?” I must’ve looked confused. “Are you free to do something with me?” When he asks that way there’s no way I can refuse him. He wanted me to draw dragons with him. I’ll scan what we drew later but it was sweet and I loved it. Today I…

Stump Door

I carved some lines into the door and then painted it. Isabella saw the photo and said, “I want to make applause for Mommy. She made the door for the stump. Well, it’s a toast-applause. ‘Yay Mommy’” and she clapped for me. “I’m proud of you, Mommy.” I consider this a very successful venture.

Door and Windows

Here’s the frame for the door and the windows. They’re not actually sitting where I want them to go but I wanted to get an idea of what they would look like. I’ll be carving into the truck so the windows are set back a bit.

Time to begin

Today seemed like a good day to jump in and begin my stump project. I don’t have a clear idea on what I want to do and quite honestly, I think that’s what my hold up has been. It feels like I should know better by now. So I jumped in. The bamboo bits in…

Finished

As I was sitting on the floor punching letters into my label maker, part of me was shaking my head, tsk-tsk-tsking myself for getting too organized. “If it’s too neat, how will you be comfortable making a mess?” the internal voice asked me. I continued, undaunted, identifying my various drawers. “You’re just doing this so…

Kid’s art area

Part of cleaning and re-sorting my studio space involved going through the kids art area as well because some of my stuff was in theirs and theirs in mine. Today I pulled it all out, got rid of things they never use and put it all back together in a much more organized way. Now…

Stump

I have a stump in the backyard and I want to turn it into a small little house – fairy flat? Gnome home? Pixie Palace? Because I’m not sure exactly what I want to do with it yet I’ve started collecting items that might come in handy. Today I cut some large branches and bamboo…

Studio Space

My creative space was a mess after getting back from CO and this week I finally decided to tackle it. I began on Tues and continued with the process today. I’m still not done. It’s amazing how sometimes you have to create a huge mess to get something straightened. I emptied all the drawers, boxes,…

Envelopes

I had a quiet hour to myself this evening so I made some envelopes with paper to go inside them. Now I’ll have to write a few good-‘ol-fashioned, handwritten letters to go with them.

Paper and Squirrel

This morning I was thumbing through a book and in the back found a website called createmixedmedia.com. I checked it out and I saw a post about ways to use up paper scraps – make page corner bookmarks. I pulled out some of my scraps (because of course I have many) and gave it a…

Vertical Gardening

Here’s my first attempt at vertical gardening. These are 2 10′ lengths of gutter, cut into 5′ pieces with end caps closing the sides. After an hour with Scott at the local Ace Hardware a hanging device was decided upon. I must say, I love it.

I Tried

It’s been awhile since I did a tangle. I sat down tonight and found it difficult. I’m guessing it’s because of the break. Instead of beating myself up about it I will say I strung a tile and started it. That’s more than a line on a page so I’m good with that.

Lovely Night

I had a night out by myself and it was lovely. It began with a friend and we went to Green Lake. On the way I saw tulips that must’ve been drenched in Miracle Grow they were so huge. We sat on a dock and talked and watched fuzzy baby ducks and their mamma. Then…

Bouquet

Walking home for lunch today the sun blessed a patch of flowers as I walked past. My momentum kept me moving but head made me stop. I turned around and picked a few of the luscious purple blooms. A little further on white petals laying on green drew my eye like a spotlight. I grabbed…
